Pet Sitting & Dog Walking in Waterville
Waterville is a college town on the Kennebec, home to Colby and Thomas College, with miles of stream-side trails close to downtown. We look after Waterville dogs, cats and every other animal at home.
- Leashed walks along Messalonskee Stream
- Overnight sitting in your own home
- Free meet and greet at your home
Colby, Thomas College and the Kennebec give Waterville a calendar of its own. Terms start and end, breaks send people traveling, and a household’s routine shifts with all of it. Your pet’s routine shouldn’t have to.
Between the colleges, the river and the trails, Waterville is a good town to be a dog. When you’re away, we keep it that way: walks on your dog’s usual routes, meals on schedule, and a photo and a text after every visit.
Plans around a college calendar, pets kept on theirs
If you work or study in town, your schedule may change with the semester. A break, a conference or a long weekend away shouldn’t mean packing your animal into a car or a kennel. We come to the house, and your pet stays where its things are.
Plans do change, so we take last-minute bookings when we have the room. Weekend and holiday visits cost a little extra, and the service cards show the live prices.
Before any booking, there’s a free meet and greet at home. Your pet gets to know us first, and nothing is booked until you feel good about it.
An evening that looks like any other
Overnight sitting runs from 7pm to 9am. In that time, your cat can take the bed it always takes, and your dog can use its own yard and its own bowl.
We ask about your evening before we start: the last trip outside, the lights, where the cat sleeps. Then we copy it, so your pet isn’t left guessing why the night looks different.
A photo arrives at bedtime and again first thing in the morning. If a pet turns down its food or a power outage hits, we call right away.
Waterville dog-walk basics
- Quarry Road Trails: about 13.5 miles of trail along Messalonskee Stream, through woods and an open meadow, around 2 miles from downtown. Leashed dogs welcome spring to fall; in winter, stay on Quarry Road and the dog-walking trails, off the groomed ski trails.
- North Street Recreation Area trail: a paved, wheelchair-friendly 0.6-mile path along Messalonskee Stream, linked by sidewalk to downtown and the riverfront.
- Waterville Dog Park on West River Road: free to use, next to Pine Ridge Golf Course. Clean up after your dog.
Dogs of every size are welcome, from puppies learning the leash to seniors who need to take it slowly. We pick up and drop off inside your home, and your dog’s paws get wiped after wet or muddy walks.
Older pets and slower days
An older dog or cat does best with the same few things at the same times: its medication, its blanket, its spot by the door. At home a visit can move as slowly as your pet needs it to, with no strange room and no other animals to cope with.
We help elderly animals up, outside and settled, and a senior dog gets the hills taken slowly. If a pet needs more than a visit, constant care means someone stays with it the whole time, working from the written instructions your vet gave you. It’s also a good fit for big packs, where paying per animal gets costly.
Winter walks, kind to paws
On the winter trails, Quarry Road itself and the dog-walking trails are open to dogs. After every walk, we rinse or wipe paws, because road salt cracks pads and dogs lick it off.
If a dog won’t wear boots, we shorten the route on the coldest days, so no walk turns into an ordeal.
Leash on, bag in pocket
Off private property, Waterville expects dogs on a leash and waste picked up on public walks and recreation areas. It’s one of the city’s nuisance rules, and fines go up for a second offense in the same year.
Our walks are one household at a time. Your dog is walked alone or with the dogs it lives with, never mixed with dogs from other homes.
Cats and small pets, too
Plenty of Waterville pets never set foot on a trail. Drop-in visits are for any animal and run from 15 minutes to an hour or more, with timed medications given as your vet directs.
A rabbit gets its meals and a visit. A cat home alone gets company and play. For a reptile, we check enclosure temperature and humidity against your numbers, and for fish we measure the exact amount of food. Elderly, disabled and special-needs animals are welcome.
If a pet has an appointment during your workday, we can take it to the vet or groomer. Dogs ride secured with a dog seatbelt, and crates are available on request.

Yes. Your sitter spends the night in your house, 7pm to 9am, with dinner, breakfast and medications on your usual timetable.
Yes, and usually better at home than anywhere else. Your cat keeps its own spot at the window, and your rabbit, guinea pig, bird, reptile or fish stays in the setup you built for it. We follow your feeding amounts, and for a reptile we check enclosure temperature and humidity against your numbers.
That is exactly what constant care is for. Someone stays with your dog the whole time, not on a schedule, which matters for animals with separation anxiety who hurt themselves when alone. We talk it through at the free meet and greet, and nothing is booked until you're comfortable.
