Pet Sitting in Sebago, on Sebago Lake

Sebago is a small lake town named for Maine's deepest lake, with about a third of its area under water. When you're away from camp or home, we keep your pets' days the same, with a photo and a text after every visit.

Sebago is a town of 1,911 people, according to the 2020 census, with a lot of shoreline. Whether your pets live by the lake all year or come along with the family for the summer, if you need to be away, they can stay right where they are.

Why lake pets do best at home

A pet who lives with the sound of water and the smell of a lake house has a whole map in its head of where things are. Take it to a kennel and every part of that map is gone. We come to your house or camp instead, so the map stays put.

That matters most for animals who find change hard, like shy cats, older dogs and birds. It matters for busy dogs, too. Daycare puts a dog among animals it has never met, which can lead to fights and illness. At the lake your dog gets one person, one household and no crowd.

A day with us, pet by pet

  • Dogs: a potty break, fresh water and play or a walk, then a rest. The Town Beach doesn’t admit animals other than service animals, so we ask you at the meet and greet how your dog gets its exercise at home and follow that.
  • Cats: company, play, fresh water and a clean litter box, with a photo to show you how the day went.
  • Small pets, birds and reptiles: for a reptile we check the enclosure temperature and humidity against your numbers, and for fish we give the exact amount of food.
  • Older and special-needs pets: welcomed, and helped up, out and settled as needed.

Good to know for Sebago dog owners

We couldn’t confirm a dog-friendly walk with a posted rule in Sebago, so we won’t send you to one. What we did confirm is short but useful.

  • Town Beach: no animals except service animals.
  • Licenses: due every year by January 1, with a late fee from February 1.
  • Ticks: Maine CDC says they can be active on any day above freezing, so check your dog after time outside, all year.

Staying home at the lake

Our overnight sitters arrive at 7pm and stay until 9am, which lets your animals keep their own beds, yard and schedule. We ask when the last trip outside is, where each pet sleeps and which lights stay on, then do just that.

Meals are measured the way you do them, and medications are given at their set times. You get a photo at bedtime and another when the day begins, and if something goes wrong, like a power outage or a leak, you hear right away.

Before the first visit

Every Sebago client starts with a free meet and greet at home, so your pet has already met us before we show up alone. We go through feeding, medications, where things are, which door the dog bolts out of and what your pet is nervous about. We don’t book anything until you’re comfortable.

We’re fully insured and certified in CPR and pet first aid, and we’ve been caring for animals for 18 years. Last-minute bookings are possible when we have availability, and weekend and holiday visits cost a little extra.

When your pet needs someone all day

Some situations call for more than a visit. A puppy who can’t be left alone, an elderly animal who needs help getting up or outside, a pet recovering from surgery, or an animal with separation anxiety who hurts itself alone can have someone with it the whole time. It’s also a good fit for big packs, where paying per animal gets costly. We work from the vet’s written discharge instructions.

That can be the difference between a quiet recovery in a familiar room and a stressful one in a strange place.

A ride when your pet needs one

When a pet needs to be somewhere, like the groomer, the vet or daycare, we can drive. Dogs travel with a seatbelt on, and crates are available if you prefer one.

Maine’s deepest lake

Sebago Lake is Maine’s deepest lake and its second largest, and it supplies drinking water to Greater Portland. The town is named for it, and about a third of Sebago is water.

Or board with us

If you’d rather your pet come to us, our quieter Portland home is the closer of our two boarding homes. Pets live in the house, bring a blanket from home, and we say honestly after the meet and greet if it isn’t a good fit.

Yes. Drop-in visits are for any animal, from 15 minutes to an hour or more, with timed medications given as directed.

Many pets are, because staying put means no car ride, no new smells and no change to mealtimes, bedtimes or bathroom breaks. A sitter coming to your home keeps all of that as it was.

We give it at the time you set, whether that's a drop-in, an overnight stay or constant care with someone present around the clock. You'll get a photo and a text after each visit, and we call right away if something seems wrong.
