Lewiston is the second-most populous city in Maine and Auburn is the Androscoggin County seat. Between them, locals call the pair L/A, and there’s a lot of pet life on both banks. Whether yours needs a midday walk, a drop-in for medications or someone to stay overnight, we’ll keep the routine going at home.

The first meeting is for your pet

Before we book a visit, we come to your home so your pet can meet us while you’re there. It sniffs, decides and gets used to us in its own space. We go over feeding, medications and what makes your pet nervous. Nothing is booked until you’re comfortable with us.

After that, every visit ends with a photo and a text. We’re fully insured and certified in CPR and pet first aid, and we have 18 years of experience.

Walks along the Androscoggin

  • Androscoggin Riverwalk: the riverside path from Auburn across the footbridge to Simard-Payne Park in Lewiston. On Lewiston city property, a leash of up to 16 feet, and no dogs at Simard-Payne Police Memorial Park during city or school events.
  • Sunny Side Park, Lewiston: the field area is open to off-leash dogs under their owner’s control from 6 to 8:30am and 6 to 8:30pm. The playground is off limits.
  • David Rancourt River Preserve, Lewiston: a 0.8-mile trail along the river below Deep Rips Dam, where pets are permitted.

One household, one walk

A shared off-leash window like Sunny Side’s means your dog may meet dogs it doesn’t know. When we walk your dog, it goes alone or with the dogs it lives with, never mixed with dogs from other homes. Your dog spends its walk with dogs it’s already at ease with. Tell us at the meet and greet how your dog does in a space like that.

We walk dogs of all sizes. Puppies get a patient start on the leash, and seniors get a pace that suits them. Paws are wiped after wet or muddy walks, and fresh water comes at the end.

Getting your pet where it needs to go

A vet visit or a grooming appointment is easier on a pet when the person driving is someone it knows. We pick your dog up at home and bring it back after. The dog rides in a seatbelt, and a crate is available on request.

It also saves you taking time off in the middle of your workday.

When your pet needs more than a visit

Some pets can’t be left alone, even for an hour. A puppy, an elderly animal who needs help getting up, a pet on a tight medication schedule or a dog with separation anxiety is better with a person present the whole time. Our constant care means exactly that. It’s also a good fit for big packs, where paying per animal gets costly.

For shorter gaps, drop-ins run from 15 minutes to an hour or more, with meals, water, medication and company for a cat home alone.

Drop-ins aren’t only for cats and dogs. Birds, rabbits, guinea pigs and other rodents, reptiles, fish and livestock are all welcome, and so are elderly, disabled and special-needs animals.

Overnight, the way your pet knows it

Overnight, a sitter arrives at 7pm and stays until 9am. Evening and morning meals are measured the way you measure them, with fresh water, litter and potty breaks in between. We ask about the last trip outside and which lights stay on, because most pets settle best when the night looks like every other one.

Why home beats a crowded room

A hectic daycare suits some dogs, but it brings risks of its own. You may trust your dog, yet you can’t know every other dog enrolled, and that’s where fighting and disease can come from. A visit at home leaves those out entirely, and your dog gets undivided attention.

Pick up, and check for ticks

Lewiston asks owners to remove their dog’s waste right away, and Auburn’s police page says cleaning up after your pet is local law. Maine CDC says ticks can be active on any day above freezing, so a quick check after river walks is a good habit all year, and in winter we wipe or rinse salt off paws after each walk.

Boarding in Portland

If you’d rather your pet stay with us, our quieter Portland home is the nearer of our two boarding homes, with far fewer animals than Lindsay’s lively Milford house. Your pet sleeps in the house with the household, not in a kennel run.

Nearby towns we also cover

Boarding stays are at our quieter Portland home, the closer of our two to Lewiston/Auburn.
