The Queen City has plenty of dogs who wait by the door around lunchtime, and plenty of cats who would rather not have the house to themselves all day. We visit both. Our walks start and end inside your door, and our drop-ins run from 15 minutes to an hour or more.

Every new client starts with a free meet and greet at home. Your pet meets us on their own turf, and you tell us which door your dog bolts out of, what makes your cat nervous and where the medications live. Nothing is booked until you’re comfortable.

Why one sitter is calmer than a crowd

A busy daycare is a good fit for some dogs. But even a dog you trust is sharing a room with dogs you have never met, and that is where fights and passed-around illnesses start. When we care for your pet one on one, in their own home, those risks are not in the picture.

There is a quieter benefit, too. Your pet hears the familiar sounds, smells their own blanket and finds the water bowl where it always is. For an older dog or a nervous cat, that sameness does a lot of work.

A Bangor visit, from your pet’s side

  • A break in the middle of the day. A walk or a potty trip, fresh water, and a wipe of the paws if it’s wet or muddy out.
  • Meals and medications on your terms. Food is measured the way you measure it, and medication is given at the time your vet set.
  • Company for a cat home alone. Some play, some quiet time, and fresh water and litter.
  • Older and special-needs animals are welcome. We go at their pace, whether that is a slow lap of the block or a long settle on the couch.

Dogs of every size walk with us, from puppies learning their first leash to seniors who take hills slowly. A dog is walked alone or with the dogs from their own home, never mixed in with dogs from other households. A walking buddy is only ever arranged with the other owner’s consent, after a meet and greet and a trial walk.

Three leashed walks in Bangor

Bangor keeps a lot of green space inside city limits. Here are three city spots that welcome dogs, with the rules the city sets for each.

  • Bangor City Forest (the Rolland F. Perry City Forest): more than 680 acres and about 15 miles of trails on the city’s northern edge. Dogs on a leash of 8 feet or less, please pick up after your pet, and there is no hunting. In winter, stay off the groomed ski trails.
  • Brown Woods: a 28-acre city woodland with an easy loop under old white pines and a picnic area, parking off Ohio Street. Dogs on a leash of 8 feet or less.
  • Kenduskeag Stream Parkway and the Waterfront: a landscaped walk from downtown along the stream to the Penobscot River. Dogs on a leash of 8 feet or less at the Waterfront.

The city counts a leash as a line of not more than eight feet, and it asks you to pick up after your dog right away in any park, street or other city property. Dogs also stay out of the safety surfacing around park play structures.

A woodland loop gives a dog something a lap of the block cannot: time to sniff, which tires a dog out in a good way.

Salt, caterpillars and ticks: keeping paws and skin safe

Winter walks in Bangor mean road salt, which cracks paw pads and gets licked off afterward. So before your dog settles back in, we rinse or wipe their paws. On the coldest days we shorten the route if a dog won’t wear boots.

Browntail moth caterpillars are the biggest worry from April to July. The Maine Forest Service says pets are less affected than people because the irritating hairs cannot get through a coat, but bare spots like the belly and muzzle can still react, and it advises keeping animals away from known activity.

In fall, adult deer ticks are out from late September to late November, and on any winter day above freezing. Maine CDC recommends checking pets after time outdoors.

A ride to the groomer or the vet

Appointments don’t always fit around your workday. We can take your pet to the groomer, daycare, vet or anywhere else they need to be. Dogs are buckled in with a dog seatbelt, and a crate can come along if you ask ahead.

When you’re away overnight

Overnight sitting means we arrive at 7pm and stay until 9am, so your pet sleeps in their own bed and keeps their own schedule. You get a photo at bedtime and another in the morning, and if a pet goes off their food or something breaks at the house, you hear about it right away.

Some animals need more than a visit. Puppies who cannot be left alone, elderly pets who need help getting up and outside, and animals recovering from surgery can have someone with them the whole time, following your vet’s written discharge instructions.

Boarding just up the road

If you’d rather your pet stay with us, Lindsay’s Milford home is about 13 miles from Bangor. Boarders live with the household and sleep in the house, not in a kennel run. It’s a lively home with pets of her own, so it suits social animals.

Send along a bed or blanket that smells of home. Before any stay we do a meet and greet, and if our quieter Portland home would suit your pet better, we’ll say so.

About 13 miles by road. Our Milford home is the closer of our two boarding homes, and it's a lively house with Lindsay's own pets. If your pet is shy or older, ask about our quieter Portland home too.

We're happy to take your dog where you'd like, as long as the trip fits the length of the visit. The City Forest asks for dogs on a leash of 8 feet or less, and in winter its groomed ski trails are for skiers only.

No. We care for any and all animals: birds, rabbits, guinea pigs and other small animals, reptiles, fish and livestock. Tell us about yours at the free meet and greet.

Many dogs are. At a daycare, even a dog you trust is mixing with dogs you have never met, and that can lead to fighting and illness. At home, your dog gets one-on-one attention in a space that already smells like theirs.

We also follow the routine your dog already knows: the same walk times, the same meals, the same spot on the couch.

Yes. Road salt can crack paw pads, and dogs lick it off, so we rinse or wipe paws after every winter walk. If your dog won't wear boots, we shorten the route on the coldest days.
